Band Aid Dil-Emma

When I first heard the new Band Aid 20 single I thought it was absolutely terrible. I’m assuming mainly because I like the first one, which has been around every Christmas for the last 20 years of my life.

The other reason is ‘the rap’. Sung, if you can call it that, by Dizzee Rascal. It’s not that I don’t like the fact that there is a rap on the single, it’s because I despise his voice! NB: I do like the fact that he wrote those 2 lines.

Spare a thought this yuletide for the deprived
If the table was turned would you survive

You ain’t gotta feel guilt just selfless
Give a little help to the helpless

Actually there is another reason I didn’t (note the tense) like it and that is the cattle herding mess of a noise at the end. This, as a friend pointed out, sounds as though they couldn’t be bothered to think of an end to the track and so just faded it out. Class.

That said, as I was on the way to buy extra baubles and shiney stuff for the Christmas tree with my sister, we heard it on the car’s radio. It suddenly felt like Christmas time and we both sang along to it, turning it up louder and even bobbing to the rap in the middle! I can now say, I lov… ok maybe that’s a bit strong… I like it more than I did.

Unfortunately, I had already been notified of the Band Aid Dilemma website and my copy of the single is no longer with us.
