A Literary Meme

I’ve picked this up from ThePickards, who had picked it up from Stephen Lang.

The rules are:

  1. Grab the nearest book.
  2. Open the book to page 123.
  3. Find the fifth sentence.
  4. Post the text of the next 4 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.
  5. Don’t you dare dig for that “cool” or “intellectual” book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.

Here is mine…

“A comfortable-looking leather armchair was in the window corner, under a reading lamp and next to a bookcase. Perhaps Femke sat reading in her window, not bothering to look at the potential clients passing by; to get her attention, the men must have had to come down the short flight of stairs and knock on her door or on the window. Would she then look up from her book, annoyed to have had her reading interrupted?

There were paintings on the walls—landscapes, one with a cow—and the rug was Oriental, as expensive-looking as she was.”

I’m at work and so my closest book was the one I read to and from work at the moment. The book is Until I Find You by John Irving and it’s one of those books that I just don’t want to end, I could read it forever.

The next closest was a DOM Scripting book, just in case you thought I’d lost my inner-geek.
